#animedvd is the unofficial chat channel for AnimeonDVD.com,
it's run by myself (Dan Jackson) with the able assistance of the #animedvd op team.
There are a few rules, nothing particularly unreasonable:
- No spamming (or "flooding" as it's more commonly known on IRC)
- No trading of DVD-rips. If you really want to see a particular show,
then rent, borrow or buy it, don't rip it. Shows that are not yet
licensed
in the United States can be found fansubbed in various formats,
however if a series is licensed by a U.S. company you should purchase
the official version in order to continue supporting the anime market.
- No spoilers. There may be things that you want to discuss about series
which some people have not seen, for example if you want to talk about the
end of a particular series, some of the people in the channel may not have seen
that, so you should ask first before mentioning that sort of thing.
- No personal attacks. We're a friendly channel. We don't want to listen to you slander someone else because you don't like them. If you don't like them so much, use /ignore (that's what it's there for :-P )
- Don't use capital letters excessively (basic netiquette really,
capital letters represent shouting, so please don't overuse them).
- Don't advertise other channels (exceptions will be made if the
channel you want to talk about has some relevance, this rule is
mainly here to get rid of lamers who do things like joining a channel,
spamming 'come to #xxxsexparty' and then leaving)
- Don't connect here using Microsoft's Comic Chat application.
This might seem like a bit of an odd rule, but the reason is that
while Comic Chat claims to be fully compatible with IRC, there are
problems with it. Please use a proper IRC client such as
mIRC instead.
- No timers, scripts, or auto-messages. These are just plain annoying.
- No language discrimination. While the channel is mainly composed of English
speakers, speakers of other languages should be made welcome also. It is worth
noting, however, that if you're saying something that you want everyone on
the channel to understand, you should probably say it in English.
- No colours. This is already enforced by the +c flag on the channel.
- No threats - this one should be common sense really.
